Steps to Obtain a Real Estate License?

I am currently looking to obtain a real estate license in New York. The first step is that I am looking to sign up for a 75-hour salesperson qualifying education course. Is the New York Real Estate Institute NYREI) a qualified course? Are there other 75 hour qualified course that are less expensive?

There are dozens of courses. Its coming up on 10 years since I got my license but its all online, very easy, mostly residential and anti discrimination law oriented. Once you are done the course you have to take a proctored test (again dozens of places offer the test, well, pre pandemic atleast). There is absolutely no reason to pay a premium for this course. Mine was time locked meaning I couldn't skip through it so there's a lot of waiting around for the counter to finish before you end a lesson.

Thanks. How long did the overall process take you? Do you have to be sponsored by a real estate firm in order to take the proctored test?
