Surprise (early?) Promotion to Sr. AM Analyst - Comp Increase

I just got a surprise promotion at my Debt AM shop to Sr. Analyst after a year at the shop and out of school. No MBA like my peers but I had 1.5 years of industry experience (cap markets, origination) prior to joining and I think this was a big driver in value to the team as I came in running and have grown rapidly.

I am completely unprepared for comp talks which will be coming shortly. Am I being too cocky to ask for a 20%? Sunbelt metro office at a newer shop. What should a 2nd year make at this type of shop? Thoughts?

What is your current salary? Most of the time analyst to senior analyst would be like a 5-10k bump + a bump in your bonus. Unless you are severely underpaid, a 20% bonus for a "senior" level promotion is pretty steep.

I don't think you need to prepare for this talk.  There usually isn't any negotiation, you get what they give you and you talk about future career progression within the firm.  Best to be the rising Analyst who doesn't create waves.  No use trying to haggle over a few thousand bucks if you are paid in line with the market, your future looks bright, and you like the company.
