Switching from Creative Advertising to Real Estate

I'm trying to break into commercial real estate from creative advertising. I became obsessed with real estate investing about 2 years ago and even bought a SFH out of state as an investment property. I want to work in CRE to gain a lot of experience and eventually start my own firm that handles commercial MF properties and manage my own portfolio. A little about me:

*All in NYC

  • Currently in creative advertising at a global ad agency (1.5 years)--strategic analysis, running my own campaigns with minimal supervision, managing a Jr. employee, more presentation focused and almost no Excel work (it's at the point where people actually complain if you send them a spreadsheet lol)

  • Previously spent 2 years in media buying and planning at a global media agency--strategic analysis, negotiating, managing client and vendor relationships, basic Excel work (Sums, percentages, the occasional VLOOKUP functions, etc).

  • Majored in Marketing/Supply Chain, and Entrepreneurship.

  • Currently taking a Real Estate Bootcamp course on Udemy to learn the basic CRE excel formulas. Also reading CRE Investing for Dummies (lol--but I highly recommend it), and listening to a ton of RE podcasts. I plan on taking the NYU Real Estate Modeling class after I complete the Udemy course.

  • Studying for the GMAT and am aiming to get my MBA in RE Finance in the next couple of years (yes I chose the MBA over the MRE for reasons explained on other threads here)

  • Looking to work as a Real Estate Analyst (preferably in Multifamily, but open to other sectors at this point) or in sales for the CRE Tech startup

I'd like to come across as someone with a somewhat "artsy" background who recognizes they don't have experience in banking or other quant-heavy fields, but who's still very passionate about working in CRE and doing what they can to get up to speed. Do you have any tips or suggestions for someone like me?

Thanks in advance!
