Switching from equity to debt and vice versa

At a MF, how easy is it to switch internally between the equity and credit teams? How should the conversation be brought up, and with who?

It’s been about a year on the desk, and obviously equity and debt are very integrated in real estate, but I would like some formal experience. Is it worth recruiting for other funds to make the switch?

Consider if your firm encourages internal mobility or not first, that is key. If so, I would then speak with people who have made internal moves at your firm over coffee and ask them how they did it, who they spoke to, etc. Every firm does that differently, so best advice is internal imo. Doesn't have to be debt vs equity move either - can be someone who moved from RE to Corporate Credit. Same principles will apply.
