So, maybe I'm missing something, but AM is a functional unit in an investment firm and REPE is just a type of investment firm (presumably each REPE firm will have an AM team/function). So, I say start applying and networking if you want to switch firms?

I am currently a AM intern (target school) at a very well known institutional fund manager (7B+ AUM). I am really liking my job, but long term I see myself working more in real estate acquisitions or development. As you mentioned, the AM works closely with the acquisitions team, but if I attempt to transition to the acquisitions team my fear is that I won't get a return offer. How should I approach a transition to acquisitions at an early stage of my career?
