UG GPA effect on MBA/top 50 REPE opps
Hey all - I had a GPA slightly below 3.0 out of a top 15-20 UG B-School and have recently finished 3 yrs in a RE consulting role, a job I earned strictly through networking in school. Throughout my job search, my grades ultimately came in-between great acquisitions roles at some of the top players (REPE 50), even after passing modeling tests, countless interviews/superdays, etc. However, I recently landed a solid role within a RE AM group at a well-capitalized firm which mainly acts as a capital allocator. My goal though, is to end up on the acquisitions side which excites me.
I was wondering (a) when will grades stop preventing me from making the jump to acquisitions and (b) how will my transcripts be viewed in a few years when applying to MBA programs despite being 7+ years out of UG?
I'm kind of in the same situation as you. You said your grades hindered your recruiting efforts? Were these firms still looking at your undergrad grades after a year or two into your first job?
Some yes, others no - even 2+ years out. Definitely the top firms asked for transcripts or what my GPA was.
