Undergrad interested in RE Careers - any resources to get started on learning the industry?

Hi I’m currently in undergrad and I’m interested in RE Careers - anyone have resources they’d recommend to get started on learning the industry? Could be news / websites / model courses / books / youtube even. Ive heard of Adventures in CRE but open to other suggestions

Sounds like you have the right idea on courses.

A big blind spot that many undergrads seem to overlook (me included) was joining RE groups. Student discounts are abundant and should help cover ULI, NAIOP, more local groups. Getting your name out there and interfacing with actual CRE professionals is just as important as knowing the foundational coursework.

For books a good one is “Investing in Real Estate Private Equity” by Sean Cook. Will give a high level overview on capital structures, legal structures, types of funds, etc.

I’d get a CREFC membership because it’s free for students. They put out some pretty good material on debt, and imo, a solid understanding of debt is p much essential for a long career in the investments industry

Hey mate. Good to hear you’re interested in RE.  I’d highly recommend reading The Real Estate Game by Poorvu. This is a great intro into how it all works. Next, I’d recommend reading Other Peoples Money. This is a fantastic book that highlights how real estate is not just bricks and mortar/rents and yields, but social infrastructure impacted by politics and emotion. It’s also a great insight into how people really make money, even though this was the worst real estate deal (possibly ever), the sponsor still made a shit tonne of cash through management fees. If I think of anything else I will reply to this comment
