VP/SVP Comp levels for National CRE Operator
I'm in multifamily acquisitions and development and have 10 years experience with a relatively successful track record. I've spent most of my career thus far jumping from small shop to small shop gaining incremental comp but now have a potential career junction point and am considering the shift from a small-cap to large-cap firm..think RMR, MAA, Lincoln, Equity Residential, Kolter, Wood, etc...I am fairly clear on what comp range should be at smaller firms in the acquisition/development space for 10-15 years exp at VP/SVP level ($200-300k base + per transaction bonus + per deal participation) but am unsure how this specifically looks at the larger shops. Can anyone provide some clarity?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, VP/SVP compensation at larger national CRE operators can vary but tends to align with the following structure:
Larger firms like RMR, MAA, and Equity Residential may also provide additional benefits such as relocation packages, enhanced retirement contributions, and other perks that smaller firms might not offer. While the base and bonus structure might not differ drastically, the upside potential from equity or carry is often more limited in these larger, institutional settings.

Very wide range dependent on firm due to promote / long term incentive but I’ve seen it range between $350k - $650k all in cash comp. I’m currently at the high end of comp plus 1.5% - 2% of fund.
Thanks for the insight. Could you share your YoE and market? That’s a pretty wide range for cash comp and I’m sure the balance between base and bonus will be a substantial point of negotiation.
Thanks!
