What is Originations Analyst job like?
Is anyone here an analyst on the debt originations side of commercial real estate? I am curious on what exactly do you guys do and where does this type of job lead to?
Underwriting and creating IC memos for debt financing. Pretty much the same as underwriting equity deals, but without the waterfall structure (although sometimes you will underwrite that too). It's the same thing as an "acquisition analyst" but solely focused on debt. At my firm, our analysts underwrite both debt and equity as they are very similar in underwriting.
How would you describe job security? Do they get let go easily?
Assuming there's not another GFC... pretty secure. As long as deals are getting done, you'll be underwriting and working.
