What is the comp level for someone in portfolio management at REPE or LifeCo?

Different from other asset classes, acquisitions people in RE are probably much more important than execution traders. Would people in portfolio management be paid much less than being in acquisitions? Would it be considered as a little back office

What about a portfolio manager? What would the comp level for that?

Depends on your level. At analyst/associate where a job in PM is more reporting and investor relations, then you probably will make the same base, but get a slightly lower bonus.

As the PM for a fund, you are most likely the top paid person in the group because without you setting the direction of the fund and fund raising, nobody else's job exists. Those PMs also are usually the head of investment committee.

That said, getting into a top PM spot is pretty difficult. If you look at the history of PMs from around the country, almost all of them have experience in AM and Acquisitions prior. A lot of them also have some experience fund raising/IR. You need all of those skills to 1) set direction for a fund 2) be head of investment committee 3) fundraise.
