I recently visited a beautiful estate downtown and to my surprise, I was told it was a residential estate so I asked what that meant and I was told real estate id divided into residential, land, and commercial real estate. How true is this?

They're lying to you. There's only 1 category of real estate and its residential. Commercial real estate doesn't exist. Office towers are just single family homes stacked.
