When should I lateral to Real Estate group?

Incoming analyst here, I would ideally like to work on the Real Estate team. However, I’ll be working at funds raising group at my bank. When do you think it’s appropriate to lateral to the real estate team. The goal is to do IB -> REPE -> starting my own business in real estate -> own my time. Do you guys suggest recruiting for REPE after I lateral or straight from my group? I feel like I would learn a lot about Real Estate by lateraling over to the Real estate team first then potentially REPE. Also how many years of experience is suggested before going out and starting your own business? I’m looking to close my first deal before I start FT. Starting small by rehabbing a property. The goal is to scale that and then potentially do other things in real estate. I intend to be doing deals on the side with a partner and lifelong friend as I’m working.
