The principal is intimately tied up with the long-overdue scandal surrounding the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.  I think Nate Paul is mentioned several times in the litany of complaints just produced by the Texas Legislature.

In other words, when his business went tits up he (allegedly) started bribing Texas state officials to help him hold on to his properties.

 

Yeah, "allegedly" is being quite generous.  There's a long thread on WSO with some of the background on the firm.  But needless to say, they're outright fraudsters.  I remember them purchasing prime CBD land in ATX and announcing an office towers and years and years later it was still sitting as a piece of dirt and had not even begun to attempt entitlements yet.

TL;DR - Run, don't walk, away.
