I was on a networking call once and told the person I was talking to that I learned a lot from WSO. I could hear him snickering and trying not to laugh. I don't mention WSO anymore on networking calls. In my defense, I was a freshmen and didn't know shit about shit (not that I know much now, but you know what I mean).
I still learn things from here even as a professional with 3 years of experience (happens a lot less than it used to, but still). Guy is kind of an ass for snickering but I’m also very cautious about who I mention the site to.
I learn a lot from here, wouldn’t know about many of the fields in finance and ways to get there without this site. It really helped me figure out what I want to do. But there is another side to this site that is a bit less serious though and so that’s why I don’t mention it anymore. Also yeah the guy was a bit of an ass.
I think it is more funny that you admitted it/said it, rather than that they were judging the fact you read WSO maybe learned something. I mean, as you said it yourself, you were a freshman, so you were not being judge too harshly unless this person was just an a-hole (I mean, sure could be!).
I would analogize it to a virgin saying they know a lot about sex because they watch a lot of porn; just the statement will get laughs and eyerolls from anyone who has engaged in the real thing!
