Appropriate Fonts other than Times New Roman
I know Palatino Linotype can work. Any recommendations on other fonts?

Depends on what you're working on. If this is your resume, then I would stick with Times New Roman. Most companies have a specific font type that is used in presentation materials (e.g., pitch books). If this is for something else… I am partial to Georgia and Verdana for personal use.
