BAML or ML
For a PWM internship at ML, is it acceptable to put "Bank of America Merrill Lynch" on a resume or is it better to stick to "Merrill Lynch"?

Just use Merrill
Merrill Lynch Wealth Management
What does the sign at your office say? Your boss's business card? I'm guessing "Merrill Lynch" but I'd check anyways.
I'm not in banking but when posting resume positions for a company that no longer exists (or in this case its entity might have changed) I would put "Company X, now Company XYZ". In your case: "Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, now Bank of America Merrill Lynch".
Again - I'm not in your field but I did this on my consulting oriented resume and it outlined that I worked for a small company that was later bought by a household name...
I would advise against this. MLWM is a very established name, and the culture of ML is so strong that some divisions still refer to themselves as ML...
Anyone in the industry looking at your resume will know what you mean, and putting that would just seem superfluous
Just use ML, thats what I did and didn't have any issues with background check even though I was technically employed by BAML
For wealth management its Merrill Lynch. This is correct. You must use this.
For I-banking, S&T, any other its BAML.
For retail banking its Bank of America.
