CF -> IB/HF/PE

Hi (newbie here),

I'm a freshman from a semi-target and am doing an internship at a non-profit (> $2 B annual rev.) in Boston. I'm a summer analyst doing corporate finance work: extract data, make models, write analyses, format model, make presentation, and repeat. My friends who graduated already told me to start looking out for internships for next year, since most of finance does the summer recruiting during the previous summer.

So, I'm wondering how my CF internship will compete in the IB/HF/PE internship pool. My hard stats are solid, but not good (> 3.2 GPA, business major) and I'm not a complete social retard so I do pretty well in interviews. I mainly got my current internship through my mom's charity work, so I've never done a "real" job application. And it's hard for me to get to NYC to network or go to any events by the banks.

So my questions are: 1. How competitive is my current internship to get one in IB/HF/PE next year? 2. How do I make my resume/application better? 3. How do I make up for not being able to go to NYC?

Thanks guys!

You're already beating most people in terms of internship experience as a freshman, you just have to get that gpa up to 3.5+ otherwise you're just making it unnecessarily hard on yourself. And you don't need to go to NYC, reach out to alumni and talk to them over the phone
