Chances of breaking into IB as a Computer Science Student going into second year (London/Madrid)

Before anyone says “Why not quant?” — I’ve explored that path. It’s not for me.

Background:

  • Uni of Bath (Semi-Target)CS & AI, First Class (Year 1, ~3.8–4.0 GPA equiv)
  • A-Levels: A* A* A (Physics, CS, Maths)
  • No IB experience yet (didnt know what springs where till after deadline), but doing City Investment Training this summer (Sameer Merchant)

The Pitch:
Went all-in on IB (M&A) this year. I’ve done the modelling, know the technicals inside-out, and prepped hard cause im sacred of being seen as just “the semi-target CS guy.” Ask me anything — I’m ready and locked in and absolutely love the grind.

The Problem:
Didn’t know about finance when applying to uni — picked CS as the safe bet. Would’ve aimed for LSE/Oxbridge if I knew... I even got an offer from UCL and Warwick but picked Bath cause I loved the culture there. I know Bath isn’t a target, no spring or internship, and that’s a gap.

Native in English & Spanish, so considering applying in Madrid where it’s less saturated. Might be an easier entry point, but long term I want to be in London. Unsure if Madrid helps me get there or locks me in regionally.

The Ask:

  • Do I have a real shot at BB/EB M&A from my position?
  • Is Madrid → London a solid route? Do I apply straight to London or is that too risky?
  • What actually moves the needle from here?

I'll attach my CV aswell, in case anyone would be so kind to criticise and give tips.
