Hi everyone,

I'm an undergrad hoping to take a one year master's and so graduate in 2016. I am therefore applying for internships at the end of this summer and would really appreciate any advice regarding my CV- I am a UK student.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Even though Manchester is not the proper non-target kind, combined with the fact that you study such a light subject like music, and that other parts of your CV are kinda weak as well... Why banking at all? BBs are out of question and you'll even struggle getting a internship at a boutique for the summer. Get into a target UK masters, network, and then you may actually stand a chance if you ace your interviews. Also I don't understand how you could apply for summer internships as a graduate when those are exclusively for 2nd year students?

Fair questions- I basically made a mistake when choosing my degree course. But it doesn't seem to have hindered me too much so far- I've got to final rounds with what I did apply to this year (Big 4, Bank of England), I just wasn't really sure what I wanted to do until about six months ago, and so missed most of the IB deadlines for this year, and the applications I did submit weren't great. The masters I'm applying for is a one year MSc in management, probably at either Manchester or Liverpool or similar, and it's a one year course, which means I will be penultimate year in the third year of my undergrad :)

Meanwhile that's kinda great, don't forget that Big 4 and central banking are not closely as competitive as FO BB jobs.

Liverpool no, I mean that's really a non-target. Manchester is still one for masters, also once again you'll do an easy subject (Management, Music). If you really want a BB FO job you can't afford to go there, primarily because your CV in itself is just weak.

Okay thanks. I appreciate the advice as obviously I'm still fairly new to all of this. I have set up a trip down to London over summer to speak to some friends of friends who may be able to help in terms of networking, and I will bear that in mind in terms of Manchester over Liverpool. I have seen a course that could be a possibility at UCL but it seems slightly more off topic (Globalisation and Latin American Development), and I may struggle to support myself financially in London while paying master's fees, I'm still looking into the options, though. It does seem that I'll struggle to get onto a course that's more relevant than management due to my undergrad subject. And do you have any other advice about the kind of experience I should be trying to add to my CV? Thanks very much for your help.
