Employment Gap - Help!

I have applied to over 50+ jobs in the last two weeks and not one company has called me. I’m starting to believe it’s because I have a one year employment gap & the ATS isn’t picking up my resume.

I took one year off to take care of my father who passed away and was not sure how I can add that into my resume to explain the gap. Does anyone have experience in this and were successful in getting calls after putting it into the resume? Any examples I can see too? Thank you
