Heres My Resume...Need Advice!

I am looking to get into an analyst role based on my background. I did not go to a target school, however it is well known in this region with 3 bachelor degrees. I currently work for a very big IB, however it is on the retail banking side. I also interned at another top IB, however it was on the private banking side. I would like some feedback on my resume as well as my chances to land a role as an analyst. Im interested in the analyst programs as well.

Thanks.

3 bach degree's?? As in you have 3 diplomas?? Holy shit.

I don't want to say it is impossible, but I would say it is a pretty long shot. Try and get a job as a credit analyst and move up from there. Maybe think about an MSF in a couple years or an MBA.

Agree with the above posters. Also, one small tweak that I made to my own resume when I was trying to break in was moving my securities licenses to the top of my resume, and listing them as the first thing under my "education" section.

Others on the site might say not to do this, but I came from a pretty non-traditional background (consulting/research to S&T to IB) and so for me, a big selling point to alot of my interviewers was that I already held all of the required securities licenses...this way, you can hit the ground running without having to lose a few months due to studying.

Just a small suggestion, but you may try it, you've got nothing to lose at this point. Otherwise, Tony is probably right, you may have to do an MSF or MBA to "re-brand" yourself.

Candidacy-wise, as others have said you will be a long shot, although it is possible with some smaller shops given your extensive finance and accounting coursework. Your best bet will be to probably go through the MBA route - for banking you don't need top 5-10 (although you should aim high), top 15 or so is usually good for IB and then for regional shops, you can probably bump lower than that.

Regarding your resume,

  1. Your bullet points need some work - verb usage, leading off with strong verbs, the sub bullet points are not necessary, expanding a bit on some details, etc.

  2. Your title is "Banker" ?

  3. Get rid of the periods

  4. Technical Skills: Office and Bloomberg

  5. Get rid of "/4.0"- in fact, if your GPA is rounded to a 3.0, you probably want to get rid of it entirely, OR highlight your major GPAs (or just Finance and Accounting) or overall Major GPA

PM me if you have any other questions
