How do people figure out their titles?

Just accepted a summer analyst role with a PE firm in SF. In my offer letter it's mentioned that I'm an "Analyst", but I'd prefer to call myself a Private Equity Analyst in my resume and linkedin. Can I just do that? do people just do that? or would you go to ur recruiter/hiring manager (or in my case the principal cos for some reason he gave me my offer) and ask them if thats allowed?

Yes I mean the title you put on resume on linkedn should be close but I never kept mine exact. Sometimes if I had a worse role id shorten the title so it was less specific about what I do so i am sure you can do the opposite.
