How to improve my resume for internship
Hi, everybody my university career center gets many companies to come out to the job fair. One of the most well-known and the busiest line on the job fair is Bloomberg. Even by student who have no interest in finance, business, or the economy. I applied to Bloomberg thinking it was my best chance to get in as an intern. I am Bloomberg certified, but haven’t taken the finance course yet. I have been interested in finance since 2014 and have heard about the Bloomberg terminal for years before entering college and knew what it can provide. I entered college in 2017 and one day saw the Bloomberg terminal I just sat down and learned the Bloomberg terminal on my own before taking the course.
In my resume I showed that I knew how to use the Bloomberg terminal. I also showed I knew the Options House, E-trade, and the TD Ameritrade platform ThinkorSwim. This was to show that I have somewhat of an understanding of finance and interest. The recruit saw my resume and asked if I spoke another language, I said yes and told me that I should apply online for customer support. A couple weeks later I applied online, but it took a couple of weeks because I had many people look over my answer to their online question and everybody said it was good.
I submitted my resume and answer, but weeks later I got a decline offer. Most people I know got the automated video interview. I didn’t even get that far which is the most basic. I was thinking maybe Bloomberg was using an automated system that capture certain keywords before a real human see the resume and I was thrown in the garbage pile. The career center at my college was also confused on why I wasn’t accepted with my resume plus and answer I gave to the question was right on point. They said they have seen student with less get in.
How can I improve my chances of getting a simple internship from large corporate and work my way up in the future. My resume for an entry level/internship spot for finance should of gave me some type of leverage, but there might be something I am missing. Other skills I have is Microsoft Suite and Adobe Suite, leadership roles, Linux, SQL, Customer Service. Let me know where I can improve and what other skills one should learn to start from the basic.
