Leave BS job on resume or have a gap
After graduation and not getting a front office offer I thought going to law school would be a good way to get involved in the M&A world somehow. Studied for the lsats and worked at a family friends software company to make some money for about 8 months untill ultimately deciding to just work in finance in any capacity I can. I have very relevant front office internships and now I’ve been working in the middle office at a large hedge fund for a year. After passing level 1 of the cfa in June I’m going to apply to some jobs and see what happnes.
My question is, which of the two evils is better; having a bs job on my resume (financial software testing) or showing a 10 month gap after graduation, but having all relevant experience shown. I’m confident in explaining in-person why I considered law school and why I didn’t go through with it but I think having this weird job inbetwen my solid internships and job now will limit me from a resume screening perspective, but then again so will a gap. Which is less bad?
In the interview... they're going to ask about the gap... and then.... you're gonna have to tell them...........
Thanks for the responses. Obviously I know this but I’m curious from purely a resume screening perspective. What will draw more red flags, a random job with no similarities to the rest of the resume or a few month gap after graduation.
