non target no finance exp...need serious help

had no luck with most summer internships opportunities for this upcoming summer...I am getting ready to start cold emailing everywhere I can. I am looking for any finance position which will give me a great learning experience above all, and give me an edge for applying to mfin/mfe programs.

please tear my resume apart...

"your getting ready to start cold emailing everywhere"

Why wasn't this done prior to posting this thread?

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Dude, "computation applied mathematics" sounds awkward as shit, not to mention redundant. It's obvious that if it's computational, it's not pure math.

Your resume does not say finance to me. Solve this by getting involved in finance clubs, supplementing coursework with finance courses, and get a relevant internship during the school year if possible.

Cold call boutiques saying you would are interested in finance. Your compsci background could be beneficial. Stress you would like to intern with them for the Learning Experience (this is code for unpaid and doesn't make you look like you are begging for any relevant unpaid position). Boutiques generally have a smaller budget so they will take the free work. A lot of times you can do some of the work from home too. Stress that you could help with performing due diligence, updating pitchbook charts, other grunt work.

A lot of times it helps to look for alumni who have interned at local banks before. Talk to those alumni and ask if they could put in a good word with there prior employer. That small reference can often make a huge difference.

Also I'm confused are you targeting banking or trading? Might be easier to swing trading with the heavy quant background. Also unless you are planning on algo trading or something I would lose the supercomputing conference volunteer position.

Good luck and stop whining. Go out there and make it happen.

updated resume using format suggested, (ignore relevant coursework where the format got ruined during converting)

I have taken out computational in major, i would assume its in there because my major consists of 4-6 comp sci classes

Also as Matthias stated I am not sure what to do with the conference volunteering and my part time job as a restaurant server...i would take both off but then my experience section would look even more pathetic. Thanks for the replies, the help is greatly appreciated.

restaurant server get rid of it

yeah one way to fill it up like everyone said is probably to elaborate a bit more on your "Other" section since you don't have an "Activities" or "Extracurricular" section, and move computer skills lower since that's kind of expected given your major and research.

Soccer team and the like actually sound like interesting things, and from what I understand sports is looked up favorably, especially if you have certain duties on the team.

And I agree it doesn't scream "finance" at me at all.

I don't accept sacrifices and I don't make them. ... If ever the pleasure of one has to be bought by the pain of the other, there better be no trade at all. A trade by which one gains and the other loses is a fraud.

Not a bad resume, but I agree with some of the other comments.

Notably,

1) this isn't a "finance" resume 2) it needs some meat

At first glance (which mind you is usually all you'll get), you come off as an aspiring scientist... You may want to consider giving your resume something of a "business" makeover. Perhaps joining another club would help? Not sure. Also, forgive my ignorance, but I've never heard of Delta Alpha Epsilon. Is this is a society where you can earn a leadership position? If so, that may be worth a look.

Also, did you accomplish anything as a volunteer or intern? Rather than list what you did, why not mention successes in those positions?

Good luck!
