please review resume and offer feedback
I'm a junior (staying another semester) at a nontarget liberal arts college trying to get a summer internship in IB or econ consulting. I understand that my credentials are weak and that my chances at IB are pretty low. So please do me a favor and let me know how I can improve my resume/improve my overall situation. Thanks very much in advance.
My thoughts: Nothing in your resume really shows that you have a demonstrated interest in IB. You aren't really a member of any investment / finance clubs, and you haven't really had any prior work experience that IBs like to look for.
I understand that and appreciate your honesty. Unmotivation and lack of direction got the better of me throughout my college career. It's kindof an annual story on WSO: some lazy, unmotivated student awakens his senior year and tries to overcome his previous years of worthlessness, only to realize that it's too late. Though my resume doesn't indicate it, I am very passionate about finance and would do anything it takes to grab hold of an opportunity. Unfortunately, I've struggled to establish connections in the industry. Moreover, even if I did establish connections, I feel as if my lack of experience would prevent me from getting a job/internship. What can/should I be doing right now to remedy my embarassment of a resume and obtain a decent internship/shot at developing a decent career?
It's one thing to say you are motivated, look at it this way you could try to get a PWM (or something else) internship this summer through networking or you could work on your own project. Here's a thought, try to put together a list of certain industries you are drawn towards. Say agriculture, mining, and healthcare. Then contact various ministers of finance, agriculture, etc... in foreign countries who speak English (send them an email outlining your credential, and say it's for a school research project or something), then ask them to work/mentor you/talk strategy and DO financial analysis. Ta da come recruiting for FT jobs during the winter of 2011 you have a chance at a possible MM role.
Good luck and I hope you don't look like one of those scum bags on Campus PD, because if you do I know there is no way you will make anything out of yourself. Well what's it going to be?
