Review my resume plese
Hi, didn't manage to secure an internship for summer 09, and I graduate next summer.
I will be applying for analyst positions in October, ideally in securities/global markets.
Here it is: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4760/josh2009cv.jpg
Any advice would be greatly received.
This thread will be EPIC...
Granted I am just an about to be second year at uni so keep that in mind.
Formatting: use a normal font take away those side notes, they make it look sloppy education at the top, not work experience I am pretty sure that when you list courses both words should be capitol ie Applied Microeconomics and Financial Modeling. What is mentorship as an interest??
Without seeing it as a whole its hard to say anymore about formatting, so it would be a lot better if you uploaded a copy to razume.
In terms of chances, dont know if you are asking for them but I would have to say slim. You do not have any financial experience, you seem to be involved with only one thing on campus (even if this might be a big thing, i didnt get the feel from reading it that it was enough to be the only thing, so you are gonna have to sell it more). If you are a part of some Jui Jitsu club than put that on there. Apart from coursework your resume does not show any interest in finance/global markets. you are also from a non target, which means you are already starting with a disability. You know how many oxbridge/LSE students with better resumes are going to apply? Im also at a british non target and 90% of my investment club (we are all about to be second years) have better CVs. Im not trying to put you down, just putting in a hint of reality and you should def have a backup plan. If you do manage to get an interview, you have to BLOW THEM AWAY. They will have to come out of that interview saying 'we want that kid working for us'. This is no easy feat as in general you need them more than they need you :)
Some things you will have to do: get an internship this summer somehow that is related to global markets. If you cannot then you will have to get one term time. So many kids are gonna be applying with relevant experience that this is a must. When I was trying to find an internship this summer I emailed 30-40 small firms and offered to work unpaid. I got one interview which didnt work out, but then 2 months later a firm contacted me saying they had a position for an intern to come in. I didnt even contact this firm but one firm I did was affiliated with it and passed on my details. So make sure to brute force it.
Join the investment club at your uni, do not know why you havent already
Spread your net REALLY wide. Apply to any grad scheme you can think of tbh. Email your CV/cover letter to small firms, big firms, fat firms, thin firms....
Network. Without a doubt, you will have to as this is the only way I see you will be able to secure an interview. At that point, you will have to amaze them as I said before.
I realize this thread is a bit negative, but theres no positive way to say it. Being from a non target you will have it harder and from what I have heard they only look for GREAT non target apps.
Good luck.

To further stress Brown_Batemans point #11, I read through it and didnt even notice that you were VP of Economics club.
Thanks guys this has been a real help. I hope to take this all on board and implement it.
ALSO, I attended JPMorgan trading game in Bournemouth where my team of 4 got awarded best team. Which was basically for minimising our bid-ask spread and setting both prices to BofE offer rate, when everybody needed to get even.
How should I encorporate that?

ok here is my remodelled resume. I will get onto contacting financial firms shortly. http://www.razume.com/documents/10578 Any major improvements needed?
