Rising Senior at Non-Target, Desperate and Need Resume Review + Career Advice

Hi fellow WSO users, I am a rising senior as the title states. I've only recently woken up and realized that I want to pursue IB some day. My resume of course, kind of sucks and I lack any good record and experiences, because I didn't put enough effort applying in the past and when I did I constantly got rejected. My GPA is also low (cumulative) because, despite my 3.7 average on normal semesters, I failed big time during 1 semester when an important family member passed away and I gave up on everything... One of my main questions is how I can display that my GPA is good in general on my resume.

I also want to get chanced for my ability to get FT recruiting and summer internships next year. I will most likely stay at current state uni to get a Msc in Finance just to remain eligible for internships before going on the job market with no credentials.

I have no expectations of getting onto Wallstreet or into any FO roles at BBs in the near future, but I do want to get some sort of FO IB related position before I'm pidgeonholed forever into crappy roles if I am to be forced to graduate w/o a good resume. My goal is to make it into a decent (but obv. not Elite) Boutique or MM front office role, with a heavy interest in Equity Research. How screwed am I based on the current resume?

Also, what is the best way to list future internships on the resume? I got accepted to some OK ones after my 10,000th try and sheer determination, but unfortunately I"ll have to apply for new positions for next year way before I'm even quarter-way through these internships.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Get rid of the summary. It doesn't add any value to the resume, in that it doesn't add any new information.

  2. The formatting is weird. Your GPA and everything in that column don't end at the end of the page. There's a huge gap and it just looks sloppy.

  3. Would take out the "Relevant Coursework" header and just add that as a line under education

  4. Add more detail on the relevant projects; it doesn't look like you've had a lot of relevant work experience, so this section would be the place to show that you actually know something, and that you have an interest in the field.
