Roast my resume
Freshman getting ready for summer 2025 recruiting. Roast my resume any advice is appreciated. It’s a weird hybrid of the usual WSO template.
I got an offer I’m taking as a summer acquisition analyst for my old boss at the plumbing company. I’ll be helping him with IOIs, LOIs, some modeling and market research. It’ll likely go into the fall semester or even spring if I choose to. He sold his main companies and is starting a holding company / PE firm focused on the trades but I was told I shouldn’t put it on my resume until it’s started. He's already gotten a few IOI's out so hopefully will get to work on a live deal sometime in the fall. I’ll have to probably take off the marketing internship or my job as a swim coach to fit it in. I kind of feel like it’s too condensed but got good feedback from all my interviews, professors and upperclassmen friends.
I’m wanting to go into asset management, equity research or if possible PE, VC or pre seed investing in tech companies.
Let me what y’all think.

I do not like roasting resumes but will give some constructive feedback. It is not bad but it does not say investment banking. You had all of these amazing skills but they are not relevant for IB. If you were going for a Data Scientist/Analyst or junior quant, I would say it is an excellent resume, but I assume you are going for IB M&A.
I do think this is a buildable resume. I think this summer, find a job that is Excel and PowerPoint heavy. Something like an Executive Assistant, or a Corporate Finance internship. If you can find a local investment bank to hire you for the summer, that also would be awesome. Just try to find anything that has a lot of Excel, PowerPoint, income statements and balance sheets.
Another thing, take accounting classes. If you university does not offer them, go to Cousera, Udemy, Study.com. These will be helpful when learning the technicals for your interviews.
I do think the plumbing company opportunity is awesome, just make sure it is PowerPoint and excel heavy.
I hope this helps.
Appreciate the feedback! To your point on me being better fit for DA/DS roles, I actually plan to apply to both and have another resume that lists 2 of my projects for data science and data analyst roles. I got a couple interviews, but nothing panned out on that end. Honestly, I wanted to do quant or DS for the longest time but I am now looking for something a bit more social. VC and pre-seed are my real goals at the moment and I am hearing from some connections that I could definitely be a good fit for them when working with tech companies. I would really only want to do IB for the 2-year stint, but my hope is I can bypass that entirely.
From what I've heard thus far the opportunity with my old boss will be quite excel and powerpoint heavy. And I know he already has a lot of IOIs out so I should be able to work with companies financial data if things pan out.
Is there a better way to get local IB to hire me for the summer or off season than just cold emailing or connections? I have reached out to a ton asking to work unpaid and they usually just kind of tell me something like: Market conditions are causing a lack of deal flow, and we don't really have anything for you, but we will send your resume around.
The reality with good (tech) VC is that you won't make it out of undergrad from non-target (pretty much only HSPM) unless you've done a great startup and sold it.
There's no point in joining small VCs as you won't learn anything, and they can't outbid/win deals over the good ones. But joining good firms like a16z and sequoia usually requires HSPM with a successful startup.
