Should I take further maths privately in a gap year?
.
I was rejected from 4 of the universities I applied to for economics (Cambridge, KCL, UCL, Warwick) and received an offer from Manchester.
My predicted grades are A star A star A for Maths, Economics and Chemistry.
I was wondering whether it was worth taking a gap year and reapplying next year whilst doing A level Further Maths privately in my gap year?
I was told that doing Further maths in a gap year might not be worth it as predicted grades from private tutors aren't weighted the same as predicted grades from school.
The main reason I want to take the gap year was because I want to apply to target universities for investment banks and know that Manchester alumni don't usually land Front office roles.
er..just study something that doesn't need further maths at target uni then? Geography, econ and geography, chemistry, biochemistry etc...Or other degrees that don't require a specific combo?
shoud i study politics and IR at UCL or Econ at notts for IB.
Make your own life easier. Don’t pick pure Econ. Pick an easy subject that will give you an AAA offer with what you already have and save yourself a year of stress and risk.
You might get sick on the day of your further math exam and flunk it, wasting yet another year.
Making it to a target uni is the most important headstart. Subject is irrelevant so long as it’s STEM.
PM if you’d like more advice.
