Starting a university gun club - detrimental to resume in Canada?
Hi everyone, hope all is well! I'm going into my second year at a Canadian semi-target, and I am currently working a great PE internship and priming myself for recruitment this upcoming year. When school starts up, I am looking to start a university gun club - focused on scheduling outings to shooting venues, educational seminars, bringing firearm certification courses to campus, etc. It's a passion of mine. I'm looking into break into big 5 Canadian IBD, and I am worried that given the political culture and the hot button issue that firearm legislation is, this puts my prospects at risk if mentioned on a resume.

I will absolutely spin the safety and leadership angle of it into the most positive light possible, so I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say. Is this inappropriate? Cheers!
you don't have to put it on your resume
This thought also came to mind. I thought it might be advantageous to showcase leadership but the potential risk will probably deter me.
Bump.
If I was you, I would do it (sounds like you’re passionate), but just leave it off of your resume and don’t bring it up in interviews. Make sure you’re doing enough other things to compensate for the time spent there.
just don't put it on your resume. Will say that HR tends to be overwhelmingly left leaning and they would look down upon this. This will be the case at pretty much every major company.
You already have solid experience, no one is going to care about your leadership at school. What they are going to care about...is trying to figure out why some dude going to work on bay street wanted to start a gun club. This is a black/white issue for most people and the 5 mins it takes to skim resume is not worth getting into a massive discussion.
If you network and see the person is really outdoorsy or so forth you could hint at it and then find someone super into it get major points then...but no need for a resume screen.
when you go into the interview, make sure to bring your guns. point them at your interviewer and ask them if they want to give you the job. the implication of course, is that they will say yes. if it's virtual just shoot your laptop directly in the webcam. once they've seen down the barrel of your gun pointing at them, I think they will be more than happy to give you the job.
