Say 3.5 GPA from a non-target, worked a couple years at a BB in a middle-office (not terrible but not great either), and has a 770 GMAT. Top 10 b school or no?

dude im getting sick of these types of questions, of course thats a top 10 school set. 770 is extremely high (in the top 1%) and surpasses all the top 10 schools averages by at least 60 pts...3.5 is a good GPA too and MBAs dont care about target schools as much as BBs do...my buddy is at Wharton coming from CSU Chico, and i dont even think he broke 750.
I know the GMAT is excellent, the GPA is ok, but I was more concerned with the work experience. WE from what I understand is the most important aspect. Plus from what I hear, pretty much anything over a 720 diminishes very quickly. ie there isn't much of a difference between a 730 and a 780 as admissions are concerned.
what sort of information are you looking for here? if someone tells you that you don't have a shot, is that going to stop you from applying? I think this post is better suited for collegeconfidential.com
no it isnt, but id like to get a ballpark idea. id apply all top 10, but more importantly id like to know my ballpark so i know what my "safties" should be.
Look at a B-school application. What's on there? Work on those things.

You need all of this plus an interview.
Buy and read Richard Montauk's book for extensive comment from actual recruiters and what they're looking for.
An extra 2 cents - if your goal is MBA --> IB, don't waste time on safety schools.
Find out what it takes to get in and go do it.
Your GPA may be too low for top 10. All other areas of your application look fine. If anything holds you back it would be your GPA.

Really? I think I will have probably a 3.5 by the time I graduate. Is the high GMAT score why you think he would be able to mayeb get in a top 10?
Avg. GPA for Top 10: 3.3-3.5. Only Harvard/Stanford have higher average GPAs than 3.5.
Keep in mind this is just that, an average.
The important thing is to be able to tie together your application. Can you tell a cohesive story about how what you've done relates to what you want to do? Are you insightful about what you've learned from your experience? You can't change your GPA (which is still strong) and your GMAT is great. If you have a great story to tell, no doubt you'll get into most of the Top 10.
A 3.5 won't hold you back. What exactly is mid-office? Depends on your essays, how you package your work exp. and why you want to get an MBA.
