Anyone know much about U of R MSF?
I'm looking at a few programs, but Rochester offered me a fairly large scholarship. I can't seem to find too much information on job placement or how the program is, I was wondering if anyone here could offer input on it? Much appreciated
rochester's a good school but the location is a big problem for those wanting to work in finance. what are your other choices?
Agree. The academics and professors at Rochester have a great reputation. But for some reason I don't see its business program or Msc Fin being translated into top tier degrees. The information that I found on placement and salaries was not very good.
I know that they have a new head of career services and he is implementing a "head hunter" program where the school actually contacts potential employers for you and sells you. Now, at first, I thought this sounded great. But then I thought to myself, "Wait a second. If career services has to go out and sell the students that must mean that recruiters are not high on the school and not coming to campus at all." That really discouraged me from attending. Top schools don't need to go sell students. The recruiters are coming to campus and fighting for kids.
GWU, BC, UVA (Commerce), and SUNY Buffalo (safety school, resident tuition)
I'd rank UVA and BC at the top. A close call between the two. GW is nothing more than an overpriced diploma mill.
I dont agree that GW is 'an overpriced diploma mill'. Pretty harsh actually.
I'm surprised you got into both UVA and BC. BC want several years of work experience and UVA is for those just out of undergrad.
UVA all the way if I was you, their placements are very good.
UVA
I am thinking about UVA MS Commerce as well for fall 2012. Would love to hear more about the program from anyone with first hand or solid information.
I am currently in the MSF program at Rochester. PM me if you have any questions.
is any doing the part time in nyc?
I'm heading there next year... Hope I made a decent choice. Anyone else attending?
I'm in Rochester's new MSF-NYC program. Pen me for any questions. So far so good and it's pretty rigorous
This question is to robins, what were your credentials coming out of UG to get into UVA?
I realize this is an older topic and wasn't sure if anyone was still discussing it. Given than this was almost 4 years ago, has Rochester's placement ability changed? It's ranked #5 on the 2015 Financial Engineer Top MSF programs and I don't see how its 6 hour away location (From NYC) could affect placement. Seems like most people have a greater ability to relocate after grad school or undergrad than mid-career...Any thoughts? Appreciate the insight!
