Extracurriculars: Captain on Top 25 D1 Football, 2+ years Non-Profit/Microfinance in Southeast Asia, Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, Big Brother Mentor in local community

Looks pretty good. Too bad about that GPA, which will make H/S/W tough unless you are a rockstar... But captain of football team + real volunteer + 720 is a good basis for other Top 10 programs.
Re volunteering: How is it viewed by adcoms if someone is actively involved with something like Rotary for example? Will this be discounted against someone who came up with his/her own idea/charity?
Is the split for the GMAT score quant/verbal or verbal/quant?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. The split is quant/verbal. Can you define "rock star?" Does that mean great letters of rec, great essays, and/or great interview?
