Baruch vs rest

Hi. I am currently going into my sophomore year and on a community college. I want to break into IB and are looking at schools to transfer to. I currently have a GPA 3.7 and can look for schools all over the country. I know that it is a competitive job and from what I have heard the school matters a lot. I have looked at different schools like carroll school of management and ross school of business. But the problem I have is that not only is the chances small to get in from what I have read but its also expensive. Is it worth going to a target/semi-target or should I try my chances on Baruch where its much cheaper to go.

If you have good grades and are low income then I would apply everywhere. All of the top and prestigious schools have large endowment funds and will cover all your financial need. I've seen Columbia, USC, and large state schools are receptive to community college applicants. There's probably a few more top schools who would take someone at a community college but I would look into any specific programs or scholarships that may be offered to transfer students coming from community college.

Be concious of how well rounded of an applicant you are. 3.7 GPA isn't very high but its enough to get you into a top school if your extracurriculars and essays are really good. Stanford and Harvard only take 10 transfers per year so definitely look at the particular spots they have for transfers. You can find that in each schools "common data set". Some tips on my experience transferring from a severe non target into a top school
