Best US master's program for NYC IB?

From my research, MIT MFin or Vandy MSF seem to be the best. MIT just seems to be a bit too quantitative and programming focused for me and I'm wondering if schools that have a better brand than Vandy would be better (e.g., UChicago & Columbia). I'm not necessarily looking at only MSF type programs, so open to hearing about MiM etc. too.

Any insights are welcome. PS. sponsorship is not an issue.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights into US master's programs for NYC investment banking (IB):

  1. MIT MFin:

    • Highly regarded for its quantitative rigor and strong brand name.
    • While it leans heavily on programming and quantitative skills, it provides excellent placement opportunities in IB and other finance roles.
    • Ideal for those comfortable with a technical, data-driven approach.
  2. Vanderbilt MSF:

    • Known for strong IB placement, especially in the South and NYC.
    • Offers a more traditional finance curriculum compared to MIT, making it less programming-intensive.
    • A great option if you're looking for a focused finance program with solid placement stats.
  3. Columbia Business School (CBS) Master's Programs:

    • Columbia's master's programs, such as the new Master's in Financial Economics, are gaining traction.
    • Being in NYC, Columbia offers unparalleled networking opportunities and access to internships with top IB firms.
    • The program's academic rigor and Ivy League brand make it a strong contender.
  4. University of Chicago (UChicago):

    • UChicago's programs, like the Master of Science in Financial Mathematics, are well-regarded but tend to be more quantitative.
    • The Booth School of Business also offers a strong MBA program, but for master's-level options, the focus is often on technical finance.
  5. Other Notable Programs:

    • Duke MMS: A solid MiM program with good placement in finance roles.
    • LSE MiM or MSc Finance: While not US-based, LSE has a strong global brand and excellent IB placement, including NYC.
    • HEC Paris MiM: Offers exchange programs with top US schools like MIT and Berkeley, making it a viable option for NYC IB.

If you're looking for a balance between brand recognition and a less technical curriculum, Columbia's master's programs or Vanderbilt MSF might be your best bets. However, if you're open to quantitative rigor, MIT MFin and UChicago programs are excellent choices.
