Cal Poly SLO, CC->USC (1 year), UCR, or CSUF for investment banking

I went to slo, its my best option right now but it does not have any diversity and even walking around the campus I got really weird looks and idk I dont want to HATE my time there.
also with SLO I heard that they only take one or two people to investment banking and that the program kind of sucks. the thing with Marshall is that I dont want to fall behind on clubs and stuff if I go in as a sophmore. Thoughts?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown of your options for investment banking:

  1. Cal Poly SLO: While Cal Poly SLO has a strong engineering and business school, it is considered a non-target for investment banking. The program is starting to get some attention from banks, but the placement into IB is minimal, with only one or two students making it each year. Networking opportunities and alumni support for IB are limited compared to other schools.

  2. Community College to USC (Marshall): Transferring to USC's Marshall School of Business is a strong option for breaking into investment banking. USC has a robust alumni network, strong placement in LA and SF banks, and a well-established reputation in the finance industry. While starting as a sophomore might make it challenging to catch up on clubs and networking, USC's resources, such as the Trojan Investing Society, can help you get up to speed quickly. If you’re serious about IB, this is likely your best bet.

  3. UC Riverside (UCR): UCR is not known for strong placement in investment banking. It would be a challenging path to break into IB from here, as it lacks the alumni network and on-campus recruiting opportunities that target or semi-target schools offer.

  4. Cal State Fullerton (CSUF): Similar to UCR, CSUF is not a target school for investment banking. While it may have some finance-related resources, breaking into IB from here would require significant self-initiative, networking, and leveraging off-campus opportunities.

Recommendation:

If your ultimate goal is investment banking, transferring to USC (Marshall) is the most strategic choice. While starting as a sophomore might feel like a disadvantage, the resources, alumni network, and recruiting opportunities at USC far outweigh the challenges. Cal Poly SLO could be a fallback option, but its limited placement in IB makes it less ideal. UCR and CSUF would be the least favorable options for this career path.
