Can I get into NYU MBA with CPY and 2 years MO experience?

Hi everyone. So here's the deal, would being a CPA and having 2 years experience in a middle office role at a BB get me into NYU's full-time MBA program? Taking this one step further, let's assume it does, will I then be able to land a front office associate position?

Some stats to consider: Non-target undergrad, GPA isn't great, some extracurricular activities.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

CDS

Your application falls short on lots of fronts so I'd say if you are a white male, you stand little to no chance of getting into any decent MBA program right now. You can't compete with guys with better finance backgrounds. Having a CPA doesn't hurt but then you're competing against other CPAs who were committeed to accounting. You basically lose on both fronts. NYU is tough simply because so many people in NYC in finance who apply to B-school chuck an application in because it's in their backyard.

What's your volunteer or extracurr experience look like?

Thanks leatherpantz, you bring up some good points. I was a member of a few clubs in UG and do some volunteer work in the city. I was hoping to continue building my extras and destroy the GMAT, but even if that happens I realize it will still be tough.

My true passion is in banking and finance, not really accounting, but I do enjoy it and was able to use that as a way into a BB. I guess if I end up in MO long-term it wouldn't be the worst thing.

Any other suggestions as to how I can achieve a FO position if NYU MBA isn't an option?

I think you could be fine with a decent GMAT (over 700, or, if you are a 20 year old commenter on this board, over 780) and another year of experience. Stern is a good school but it isn't Stanford, as far as selectivity goes. Aside from your numbers, make sure you have a strong why mba/why now/why here. Wanting to do investment banking is fine, but actually using that as a convincing reason on your application will put you in the pile with thousands of others. Spin your story well, have a logical progression in mind, and you'll be ok.

tons of great b schools out there? any reason to limit yourself to just nyu?

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?
