CBS for MBB?
So I am approaching my 3rd year in banking and my long term aspirations are more corporate in nature (not so much financial services/PE). I believe I am decently well positioned for CBS (in M&A IB, went to a semi-target, haven't taken the GMAT yet). I have close friends in MBB and the work environment is one I believe I can extract a lot of value from. I know CBS is Finance focused, but is MBB an achievable outcome out of the program?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, CBS (Columbia Business School) is indeed a strong platform for transitioning into MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain). While CBS is traditionally known for its finance focus, it has a robust consulting recruiting pipeline as well. Many CBS graduates successfully land roles at MBB, especially if they leverage the school's resources, network effectively, and perform well academically.
Your background in M&A IB positions you well for CBS admissions and for consulting recruiting post-MBA. However, keep in mind that consulting recruiting is highly competitive, and you'll need to prepare thoroughly for case interviews and networking opportunities. Additionally, taking the GMAT and achieving a competitive score will be crucial for both CBS admissions and signaling your analytical capabilities to consulting firms.
In summary, MBB is an achievable outcome from CBS, provided you strategically position yourself during the MBA program and actively engage with consulting-related resources and opportunities.
