Chances of Admission to a Target

Hello all,

I've appreciated the information and support present on WSO and hope you can give some individual advice.

So recently, ending up in a BO position at a brokerage firm has made me feel pretty unchallenged and frustrated. I decided this past week to take the GMAT over the weekend. I went into the test cold, and did pretty well (710). I know it's late in the admissions season - all that remains are the final or third round deadlines. I wanted to get some feedback on a few things:

  1. Where would I have a good shot at admission?

  2. Is it too late for Fall 2011?

Some other background information: 3.83 non-target private; 2 years foreign volunteer work; Prior to working BO, I worked for a small company straight out of undergrad managing investments and trading (futures and options) and then started my own investment management business (futures and options) before the volatility spike in Fall 08. Any other relevant information, feel free to ask. Thanks.

Well,

It is pretty late for admission, Round 3 is quite harder, but not impossible. Your background sounds great, however, I am no specialist, the best thing would be ask Stacy or Alex. You can also check other consultants, and quite rapidly you will see a consensus over which school is more appropriate to your profile.

Personally, I asked 5 consultants which schools they would suggest, and they were damn right. I did not pay them, but only ask for a quick feedback. Good luck.

at this stage, it's a matter of whether you complement the group of applicants they have already admitted. you need to get in touch with people who are involved in the recruiting. p.s. it really helps to go to their info sessions. the readers of your app will be there. in general, i think failing at an entrepreneurial business is a good thing for bschool.
