City, University of London- Finance BSc or Economics BSc?
These are my 2 uni offers, both from City University of London.
A Finance (BSc) and this would be with City's business school Bayes (aka Cass).
or
An Economics (BSc) also from City but it would not be with their business school.
Which option gives me a better chance of breaking into a career in finance? I'm happy to work in any sub-field of finance.
Thanks.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, the Finance BSc at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) would likely provide a stronger pathway into a career in finance compared to the Economics BSc at City University of London. Here's why:
Reputation and Branding: Bayes Business School has a stronger reputation in the finance industry, both in the UK and internationally. Its alumni network and brand recognition can give you an edge when applying for finance roles.
Specialized Curriculum: A Finance BSc is more tailored to the skills and knowledge required in the finance industry, covering areas like financial modeling, investment analysis, and corporate finance. This specialization can make you more attractive to employers in finance.
Career Services and Networking: Bayes Business School offers dedicated career services and networking opportunities specifically for finance students. This includes access to industry events, internships, and alumni connections, which are crucial for breaking into competitive finance roles.
Placement Opportunities: Bayes has strong links with financial institutions and often facilitates internships and placements, which are critical for gaining experience and securing a full-time role in finance.
While an Economics BSc can also lead to a career in finance, it is generally broader and less specialized. If your goal is to work in any sub-field of finance, the Finance BSc at Bayes Business School is the better choice.
