Didn't Finish GMAT

Took the GMAT today and didn't get to the last 3 math questions. Got a 720 overall, 99th percentile on verbal but only 66th percentile on quant. I wasn't aware until now that there is a penalty for not finishing the exam. I feel like my score might have been much higher because I thought I did well and figured out the question I was on but when I looked up time was out. Is it worth retaking for m7 schools? I have a CPA, part of the CFA, and a 790 on the math portion of the SAT which sort of justify my math ability but maybe not enough. What do you guys think?

Thanks

It means better than 66%. God dammit. I guess I'll retake in two years for MBA programs. This was just for Master's in Finance at LSE and Oxford. They'll probably even look down more at the split.

If you retake the gmat before it expires (5yrs) how do MBA programs evaluate the two scores? How much weight is put on each?

Masters in Finance programs will be tough with 66th percentile Q scores. Typical admits tend to have perfect or near-perfect Q scores, as these programs really focus on mathematical ability. I found the GRE Q to be easier if you can take that instead. U.S. programs typically accept both.

I don't think MBA programs will care, as your overall score is excellent, and they don't seem to have a preference for Q over V. In general, it doesn't seem like MBA programs really care that much about the GMAT, as long as you have 700+.

they take the higher one. You would have scored 730+ if you guessed the last 3 math questions since the penalty for not finishing a question is greater than getting it wrong. Top schools generally like to see a 80/80 split in terms of how well you do % wise.

Regardless, a 720 is still in the 95% and a really really good score. Getting a 720 without studying is impressive, your ass should be working for NASA or something...if you study, retake and finish on time, a 760+ is totally attainable. I envy you.

Try for the 80-80 percentile split. You obviously crushed verbal if you got a 720. Make sure you get the math up. Do a retake. You should sit for it before June, that's when it changes. If you did this well without studying, you probably only need a matter of weeks and you'll tank the quant portion as well.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Yeah, the penalty for not finishing can be fairly detrimental. A 66 percentile quant score would not sit well with any worthwhile school.
