Does no interview imply rejection?
I applied to four schools and got invited to interviews from the lower-ranked two, but not the higher-ranked two.
Should I assume that I just didn't get in to the two where they did not request an interview?

Depends. If the school interviews all candidates who are accepted, and you know for sure that all interviews are done but you have not been interviewed, that's probably a sign you're not getting accepted.
Not necessarily. Other factors maybe in play (class size/target profiles etc...)
