Does the name and reputation of the b-school matter???
I have admits from two part time MBA programs. One is a T20 university whereas the other is T30. However, I personally felt that the curriculum of the T30 university is way better than the other better ranked university. In fact, it also has an option to opt for a dual degree which also facilitates specialization in a particular field. I feel I would be able to learn more in that T30 university in comparison to the other better ranked university whose curriculum doesn't seem impressive to me personally mainly because of the lack of available electives/credits that matter. This may be because of the part-time MBA offering (I would think because part-time programs have limited elective options as compared to full-time programs).
Which would be a better option to go for? The lower ranked university with a better curriculum or go with the better ranked university offering lesser credits and eventually lesser knowledge to break in?
Comparing UMich Ross and UT Dallas and yes UT Dallas seemed to have a better curriculum than Ross. Would sound weird but I guess Ross has some limitations in offering electives when it comes to part-time MBA.
I only consider T15
Well in a sense Ross(Michigan) is T15.
Good
Check out the job placement rates. It should be somewhere on their website. Like what % of grads have a job within 3 months of graduation.
Job prospects are better for Ross(Michigan) as compared to Jindal(Dallas). More reputed university with better opportunities(seemingly as seen and heard of). But Jindal has a more in-depth curriculum and I think I would learn more at Jindal. Do companies look at universities or curriculum? I mean I would know more and hence, be in a better position to handle interviews in case I decide to go with Jindal but would I even land interviews in the first place??
make sure you are looking at PT job placement and not FT. they are different
The value of the business school is most purely a function of the value of the opportunities that open up to you, plus whatever you value in terms of school life.
No company "values" curriculum, and a lot of what you learn in "class" doesn't apply anyway. Also, MBA classes are a joke.
But, if you really enjoy the classroom, then maybe that's a factor, but that is separate from getting better looks from companies.
Take Ross
