Female trader B school chances- HBS/Wharton/Stanford?
Worked for 3 years as volatility/derivatives trader at a French bank, moved over to a general trading assistant/risk and middle office role at a good sized HF after. Went to a top 10-15 undergrad and majored in Applied Math and Econ. 3.35 GPA. 740 on the GMAT (40 V / 50 Q). Have a pretty strong story for my essay as well. thoughts?
GPA is lower than average, GMAT is slightly lower than the average at those 3, but helps balance out the GPA. Your work experience isn't bad, but unless you have your compelling essay combined with a great recommendation, you're probably a fringe candidate. You would have a better chance at the bottom tier of the M7 schools, but HWS is expecting top scores/undergrad profile/work experience. The only thing you could consider doing at this point is retaking the GMAT to marginally add to your score.
Not sure I'd agree w/ your analysis. Female trader, also looks like she took a difficult major which caveats the (relatively) low-ish GPA for HSW. Pretty solid GMAT. Could even play up any "international" experience/exposure, since schools nowadays love that.
I'd say H/S are still really tough, Wharton less so. Schools like Booth/Kellogg/Sloan/Columbia would take you. Strong shot at getting money, especially from Kellogg & Booth.
Could obviously be wrong - just giving my .02
Male trader - no chance Female trader with STEM background - full ride at a top 10 program
On what planet is that fair?
not that it's fair - it's probably happening
