Final UCAS choices review
Ive narrowed down my university choices; I would just like a "second opinion" on them. I have predicted grades of AAA (after some very questionable and straight-up shady actions from the DT department).
University of Bath (econ) A * AA
University of Nottingham (econ) A * AA spoke with a councillor; she said it would be ok
University of Bristol (econ+finance) AAA
St Andrews (econ) ABB-AAA
University of York (econ) AAA on their website, but ucas offer chance based on historical data was 80%+ for ABB
What would you say the chances of me receiving an offer from Bath or Bristol for straight econ, taking into account my personal statement as well (I had it reviewed by an ex-LSE admissions and he told me it was very good), given the typical offer is A*AA?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, your predicted grades of AAA put you in a competitive position for most of the universities on your list. Here's a breakdown of your chances:
University of Bath (Econ) A*AA: Bath is known for its strong industrial placement programs and is well-regarded for economics. With a strong personal statement reviewed by an ex-LSE admissions officer, you have a decent chance, but the A*AA requirement means they may prioritize applicants with slightly higher predicted grades. However, your polished application could give you an edge.
University of Nottingham (Econ) A*AA: Nottingham is a strong semi-target for finance and economics. If your counselor believes your application is solid, and with your strong personal statement, you stand a good chance here, especially since Nottingham tends to be slightly more flexible compared to Bath.
University of Bristol (Econ + Finance) AAA: Bristol is a strong semi-target and aligns well with your predicted grades. Your AAA prediction matches their requirements, and your strong personal statement should make you a competitive candidate.
St Andrews (Econ) ABB-AAA: St Andrews is a respected institution, and their range of ABB-AAA suggests they are more flexible with grades. Your AAA prediction should make you a strong candidate, and the university's reputation in economics will work in your favor.
University of York (Econ) AAA: York is a semi-target with a good reputation for economics. The historical data showing an 80%+ offer rate for ABB suggests they are flexible, so your AAA prediction should make you a very strong candidate here.
Chances for Bath and Bristol:
Overall, your choices are well-balanced, with a mix of competitive and slightly more flexible options. Your strong personal statement and predicted grades should give you a solid chance at receiving offers from most, if not all, of these universities.

Bath will reject you
Choose at least 1 or 2 target university courses with lower grade requirement for some courses
in the end i applied to: bath manchester york reading for straight econ and bristol for econ and finance. if bath were to reject me i wouldn’t mind as i still have bristol and manchester which are very strong courses.
Manchester is non-target
applying to UCAS in january is crazy
help me out man i’m going crazy over these. ik nottingham is a target. they gave a few recent offers for AAA, the guy had A*AB but idk if it would be too risky
Nottingham is a semi-target, its on the same tier as Bristol, Durham and Bath (and maybe even St. Andrews)
You really want to get a A* in Maths and have A*AA overall to have a good chance with these pre-clearing. However, Notts does do a lot of courses in clearing that they take anyone. I think they even had BBB offers for Industrial Economics, so don't stress too much if you don't get offers now
This looks like a decent choice.
Nottingham are relatively relaxed with giving out offers.
Bristol econ would be a definite rejection as they make decisions based on grades alone. Applying to finance there is a good move.
Anywhere similar to York or below will be in clearing. I would keep York in anyway incase you don’t get offers elsewhere.
I applied to econ and finance at bristol. do you think it would be worth swapping reading out and putting nottingham in. as for my firm and insurance i won’t pick reading anyway as similar courses will be in clearing
