For undergrad, any major difference in outcome/prestige UMich Ross vs. Notre Dame Mendoza?
Hey, I'm going to be a first generation college student, so my blue collar family isn't much help in this regard. US News puts Ross undergrad at #3. But Poets & Quants and Bloomberg put Mendoza ahead of Ross, at #2 (with Ross at #8 and #10, respectively). I think they're both about the same size, 500-600 kids per year.
I'm not like a bible thumping Catholic but I do attend a Catholic high school and it's been a really solid experience. Both have fun sports culture. I'd probably say Ann Arbor is a superior town to live in, as South Bend is pretty grimy. I think I'd be really happy at either to be honest, so I'd just like to best position myself for a great career.
I assume Notre Dame has more cachet since it's private and a harder university to get into, overall? But I'm not sure if that's applicable to the business colleges, specifically.
Thank you for any insights.
Ross is a notch higher than Mendoza for both undergrad and MBA.
Username teases out potential bias. Lol
How so?
Ross is better in prestige perception. ND has a tighter alumni base IMO. I would do Ross for MBA within the two, but UG level it doesn't have a slam dunk winner
I go to Ross pm with any questions. I think you should choose based on where you’d enjoy the experience more. In terms of frequency Ross places better but the quality of ND banking placement is pretty high and I’ve heard their alumni network is strong.
Echoing the general consensus, choose based on your fit with the schools and possibly the cost difference. Both schools offer solid programs, and if you work hard you should be able to get most any IB/Consulting interviews you want from either. FWIW, if it's a straight toss up I'd choose Michigan Ross.
Mendoza alum here. I'd echo what others said - not a clear winner in terms of prestige, so I'd pick based on fit. South Bend is definitely a little on the grimier side, but the campus life is incredible. Notre Dame does seem to have a tighter alumni network, which has been a huge benefit to my career.
Feel free to PM with questions. Good luck either way!
Current Ross undergrad, feel free to PM me with any questions.
I'd bet Ross places far more in NYC, but Ross also has a lot more kids from NY/NJ, so that probably skews things quite a bit. I'd go Mendoza, since Notre Dame is private, the more selective university overall, and ND alums are far tighter. If Michigan kids remain tight it's only because they were in the same frat.
ND kids are usually more fratty and have a tighter knit alumni. UM kids could be a wide variety.
.........Notre Dame doesn’t have frats.

Ross employment report should make your decision clear
Notre Dame. Private, more prestigious, wealthier student body, and will be a stronger signal on your resume for the next 50 years. But I probably wouldn't recommend concentrating in business, take advantage of the private college experience and pursue something of substance. The only people who'd tell you to go to Ross are anti-Catholics and Wolverines who don't know any better. Notre Dame is all solid high-character valedictorians, Ross is mostly DECA schmucks.
