Fordham honors - consulting vs banking

I'm a senior in high school and I'm going to Fordham in the fall. I'll be majoring in finance and I'm in the Global Business Honors Program, an honors program of roughly 15-20 kids.

From what I've read here, if I network a bit and keep my GPA up, especially with the help of the program, I could probably end up getting a BB offer. However, I often find myself leaning more towards consulting than banking. I'm under the impression that MBB is harder to break into than BB, but what about other consulting firms?

Is MBB even possible from Fordham? What are some of the top consulting jobs that aren't MBB and are they attainable in my current situation? In other words, I'm trying to gauge how Fordham fares for banking vs consulting recruiting, especially since I'm going on a full tuition scholarship and won't be transferring because of money.

Thanks.

Currently a Fordham senior - consulting isn't much a career choice here outside of Big 4. I know 3 people who are going to Tier-2 Consulting firms (S& and LEK), but that is it. Frankly, people don't even really know what MBB is here. On the other hand, the finance/IB path is very possible. No real EB connections here, however lots of connections with BB. Definitely apply for Finance Scholars after freshmen year, as that is rather essential to be aware of what is going on with recruiting. If you are a girl, do SWS (Smart Woman Securities), or if you are any other under-represented group, you utilize the minority group you associate with.

Lots of upper-classmen are wiling to help out with you. The high-achieving finance kids all rub-shoulders constantly in the business school building (Hughes), so if you hang around there and show your face enough, you will eventually strike-up conversations with them and they will be lots of kelp.

As for GBHP, I don't really believe it is that much of help for recruiting or anything. For the two different honor programs here, I don't really believe those kids differentiate themselves from non-honors kids at all.

Let me know if you have any questions! I have loved being at Fordham and wish I could be in your shoes repeating these 4 years.

Thanks for the response. Would you rather take a BB offer or something like Deloitte strategy? Idk if that counts as Big 4, I'm sort of inexperienced in this. The hours for banking are just sort of intimidating seeming.

Recent Fordham grad working at BB, so definitely super biased but I don’t think anyone sane would take Deloitte strategy over BB. WLB may not be great in banking but consultants don’t exactly work 40hrs a week either. Fordham exits to big 4 consulting are slim, and to MBB nonexistent. But you’ll find that Fordham has strong alumni in BB who are tightly knit and really go out of their way to help Fordham kids. If you’re GBHP + finance scholar you should have no trouble landing a BB offer. Good luck!

Nailed it right on the head here. MBB is virtually non-existent from Fordham, but BB is definitely possible bc our relationships there are weirdly great. Keep your GPA up freshman and sophomore year, (3.85+ if possible)

I'm a junior there now. Consulting is a no-go from what Iv seen. BB is very achievable if you are good. GBHP kids get M&A experience as early as freshman year if they apply for CAPM Advisors. That could help you a lot if leveraged correctly.
