GMAT / GRE Prep?

Hey all,

Just wanted some thoughts on how long prep can take for either of the exams. I finished UG in 2024 and have been unable to land a gig for 7 months. Wanna know if I have time to prep for these exams to still make application deadlines in April / May for Fall 2025 Start Dates.

All advice is appreciated, thank you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, GMAT/GRE prep typically takes about 2-3 months of consistent effort. If you start now, you should have enough time to prepare and meet the April/May application deadlines for Fall 2025 start dates. Here’s a breakdown of what you can do:

  1. Study Plan: Dedicate 2-3 months to prep. Use resources like Kaplan or Manhattan Prep for structured courses and materials.
  2. Practice Tests: Aim to take 6-10 practice tests during your prep. Review explanations for every question to understand your mistakes.
  3. Consistency: Even if you can only study for an hour a day, consistency is key. Build a routine.
  4. Retakes: If needed, you can retake the test. Schools generally consider your highest score.

Since you’ve been out of undergrad for a year, starting now will also help you capitalize on the advantage of being closer to your academic years, as test-takers tend to perform better during this period.
