HEC mim vs Bocconi mif

I have been admitted to the Master in Management Grande Ecole at HEC and at the Master in Finance (in Italian) at Bocconi.
I don’t really know which one to choose.

I am still not sure on which path to take in my career, I want to try both consulting and IB and then PE, but my long term goal, since I was in high school, is to start my own business.

HEC is significantly more expensive than Bocconi, but I think I would like more its program and teaching style, I have heard that Bocconi mif is very academic and it requires too much work and a terrible lifestyle, and maybe it can be a disadvantage the fact that it is taught in Italian. Also, thinking about entrepreneurship it is probably better to study management than finance. Furthermore, HEC is constantly ranked much higher.
Another pro is that in HEC I can take a gap year in between the two years, and that would be very useful for me because I have no relevant finance experience, so it would be a nice way to improve my cv and leverage the career service.

I think that Bocconi is stronger than HEC in London, and that HEC is very focused on France. I am thinking I may start my career in Paris and then move to London, do you think it is possible if I can not speak French?
I am not interested in working in Italy, at least in the short-medium term.

Finally, I would like to try to move in the US in the future, which university is more recognized there?

I am thinking that the only reason why I would choose Bocconi is for the price, and maybe because it's stronger in the UK.

I would be extremely grateful if you could share your views :)

I would say like this:

- In London HEC has a slight edge over Bocconi. However I have heard both sides so I am myself a bit confused as well

- It would be very hard to work (or should I say get an internship/job) in France without speaking french. Not impossible but hard. Btw do you speak italian?

- The lifestyle in Milan is actually a plus for Bocconi for me haha interesting to see you going the opposite :P So, HEC is in Joue-en-Josas in the southern suburb of Paris. So, not very idillic. However the campus ambiance is very cool there. Also what could be important: did you do prépa?

- keep in mind that you will spend less money at HEC for rent than in Milan. But everything else will be more expensive in Paris.

- either way, both schools place really really well for IB so congrats on getting there :)

- Check out the Bocconi-HEC double degree. You can do it in the 3rd year/exchange of the MiM program if I am correct. However it might be more judiciable to do an internship and gain xp

- the major difference in terms of the program is that Bocconi is academic and hard. You will study a lot and learn a lot. With HEC you will have more time to connect and network, but more importantly also apply for internships

- for the US I think both schools are on the same page. Unfortunately continental European schools don't reach the US well (but having a visa/nationality helps a lot and makes it possible. Without a visa however it is very very difficult).

You also have 3 more days to decide? Good luck, I personally haven't made my mind yet haha

Hi, I'll contact you in DM!

- From LinkedIn it seems like the difference between the two in London is marginal, so I wouldn't base my decision on this.

- I have seen from your other post that you are French and you want to go to Milan to have a new experience. For me it's the opposite because I am Italian and I wanna try the experience of living in "Paris" ahah. Also, I am sure I will live in Milan (that I do not like at all) at some point in my career, but if I don't study there I don't think I will ever live in France.

- I am also looking at Glassdoor and pay in Italy is significantly lower than in France, I don't really want this.

- The program in Bocconi is very hard but I think that its students are among the most prepared technically. I don't know how much stuff you actually learn in HEC, I feel like it's just about getting the job but I'm not sure about the concrete learning there, so I agree with you on that.

- HEC also has partnership with important US schools (Yale, MIT) for the M2, I'm not sure about Bocconi but I would consider this too.

I have to give my confirmation on Wednesday. Hardest decision ever ahah.
